Your Section:
As a member of GFTU you will be part of one of GFTU Section, which Section you are part of depends on the trade or industry you work in the GFTU sections are listed below, with examples of the trades or industries that come under each one.
 

Public Services Section:   

Civil service, public bodies, local government, government departments & agencies, clerical, court staff, teachers, health workers

Construction, Furniture, Timber & Allied Section:

Brick Kiln, wood, construction & building material, glass & furniture, general workers

 Engineering Section:

 mechanics, construction Engineering workers, Civil Draftsman Union, IT, telecommunications

 Process Section:

Chemicals, rubber, plastics, pharmacists, paper & board, packaging, surgical,

 Commercial Services Section:

banking & financial services, Security, solicitors, transport, Tourism, Sports,  retail, distributive, food processing and manufacturing, laundries, ,  warehouses, insurance agents, clerical, travel industry, telecommunications,, Post, Cable and Wireless, school staff

 Energy and Utilities Section:

Gas, nuclear & energy, Coal Mines & oil Field, Water &  utilities

Food & Leisure Section:

Food and Drink Manufacturing, Distribution/Logistics, Retail & Supermarkets, Leisure, Hotels & Catering, Restaurants & Hospitality, Registered Clubs. Sugar, Agricultural, tobacco, dairy process, food production & distribution

Clothing and Textiles Section:

 warehouses, tailors, clothing manufacturers, fabric & textile producers. Power Looms, Textile Industries, Jute product Industries. Knitwear, lace, hosiery, footwear and leather, gloving, made-up leather goods and other apparel

Media, Entertainment & Arts Section:

journalists, Actors, Musicians, broadcasting, film, video, theatre, cinema & Cultural, television, variety, performers, writers

NOTE: Each Sub Section is headed by a National Secretary. The Officer is part of a National Committee that discusses and decides strategic issues affecting the industry groups concerned.

Each Section is also supported by organizers & specialist researchers, health & safety, legal and pensions experts working at regional and national level, who can provide expert help industry-specific advice for members, no matter where you work.
